Have Your Say: Poch Should Be Backed Not Sacked, Spurs Don’t Need A Short Term Boost

The situation we are in, as I said before, is an accumulation of things – but no point on going on about that, it has past.

Some of it is unavoidable, some of it is naivety and some of it is poor decision making. This is the consequence of those things and Poch has now got to deal with the situation. Let’s remember his frustrations were shown all summer and at the beginning of the season because he saw this coming.

He knew he had to have what he described as a painful rebuild, and it didn’t happen.

These players haven’t been able to get over the line and the CL loss was the end of an era for some players. New challenges, ageing players, that’s normal. Problem now is what does he do?

There are too many players that want, and need to go, so drop them all and replace them with kids. Especially when you’ve got other senior players who do want to stay and do care, but are out of form due to coming back from injuries and then players still injured.

That team I was satisfied with and there is no reason it shouldn’t have won on Saturday. It didn’t help our captain having a howler, then getting injured, but even so, they are senior internationals and should be able to recover.

These players don’t need much coaching, or motivating they are experienced and the motivation and desire should come from within. So for me, MP isn’t to blame. He has at times made strange decisions, especially of late, but that is because he is in an impossible situation. He is trying to find the answers within the squad to get through this, but too many players have one foot in and one foot out of the club, so it’s impossible.

I don’t believe it’s up to him to motivate these players, tell me who can motivate a person who has handed their notice in at work?

You can drop them, but with it being so many players who were supposed to leave, six at least, it’s not easy to drop the lot and maintain top four. For me, the players are going so no point in getting rid of MP – see what he can do when the situation changes and those players are gone and new ones are in.

I believe he will do well again. Bringing in a new manager may give a short boost but the players are still going. So for me, the players have let MP down and I hope he stays but how it’s resolved, I don’t know.
